Roasted Moringa Chickpeas

Dishes with Moringa - Flavored Chickpeas

A simple, healthy and vegan meal from Sri Lanka. With the protein richness of the chickpeas and the nutrient richness of the Moringa leaves.

    Gently roast the mustard seeds, fennel seeds, dried chili pieces and onions.

Moringa Chickpeas

Roasted Moringa Chickpeas


  • 100g chickpeas
  • 1 tps salt
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 pinch of mustard seeds
  • 1 pinch of fennel seeds
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 1 dried red chili peppers (in 3 pieces)
  • 1 tsp Moringa-Powder


  1. Let 100 g chickpeas soak for at least 12 hours.
  2. Then boil the chickpeas with 2 l of water and 1 tsp of salt covered, on high heat.
  3. As soon as the water boils, turn the stove on the middle level.
  4. After about 1 hour the chickpeas are soft. Remove them from the heat and drain the water.
  5. Add 1 tbsp oil to a medium-sized pan and heat up.
  6. Add 1 pinch of mustard seeds until the mustard seeds begin to burst.
  7. Then add 1 pinch of fennel seeds, the red chili peppers and the finely chopped onions.
  8. Roast at medium level for about 2 minutes until the onions are golden brown.
  9. Finally add the chickpeas and 1/2 tsp of Moringa powder.
  10. Switch off the stove and mix everything evenly. Bon appétit!
